Metal stamping with a focus on sustainability

At Mikrostyk, we specialize in the production of metal components and the automation of production processes. The industry presents us with significant challenges and high demands, but our strategy goes beyond current business needs. We think about future generations and the environment. Our actions are driven by innovation, passion, and a positive attitude. As a company whose main expertise is metal stamping, we focus on quality, process optimization, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement. Nevertheless, sustainability is also embedded in our DNA and is an integral part of our operations.

We reduce our carbon footprint

A significant portion of our company’s carbon footprint comes from electricity consumption. Given the beautiful location of our company, surrounded by historical landmarks, the only viable option for us was the installation of photovoltaic panels. Thanks to this solution, we estimate that, on average, 30% of our annual energy consumption comes from our solar panels, which provide a clean energy source. In 2023, we managed to reduce our carbon footprint by 22%. Over the past two years, we have decreased it by 35%, and next year we aim to achieve a 50% reduction compared to the baseline year. This is a big challenge ahead, but we are confident we will accomplish it.

Innovative solutions for environmental protection

Metal stamping and other processes in our factory consume large amounts of electricity. To better understand and control energy consumption in our company, we decided to monitor both the production departments and individual energy-intensive processes. This will allow us to accurately determine energy usage levels and identify opportunities for optimization and reduction. In the summer, when temperatures are high, we use highly efficient and energy-saving evaporative cooling systems. These systems use the natural process of water evaporation to lower the temperature. Hot air passes through wet pads, where the water absorbs part of the heat, and the cooled, fresh air is then returned to the production floor. This eco-friendly system consumes 87% less energy than traditional air conditioning units, while also providing naturally fresh air, reducing the presence of bacteria and pathogens.

Sustainability and metal stamping

At Mikrostyk, we have implemented numerous solutions aimed at promoting sustainability. Our production halls feature large windows that let in a lot of light but also cause excessive heating of the spaces. To address this, we applied a special reflective film that minimizes heat buildup during the summer, reducing the need for air conditioning. In collaboration with our zinc plating chemical supplier, we optimized coating formulas, allowing us to lower the bath temperature by 30 degrees Celsius. This has significantly reduced energy consumption during galvanizing processes. One of the largest energy consumers in our company is the compressors. We installed flow meters on the compressors to precisely analyze and optimize the consumption of compressed air. Additionally, we have begun installing fully automated electromechanical valves on our presses, which cut off the air supply immediately when the production process stops.

Creativity in upcycling – Mikrostyk in a different light

One of our unique projects is U-Bijou, a brand created by our Stacja Mikrostyk foundation. We produce jewelry from metal waste generated during production, showcasing how creatively and beautifully upcycling can be utilized. When looking at these exceptional pieces, it's hard to believe they were once scrap. The U-Bijou brand was created to promote responsible consumption and sustainable fashion.

Striving for sustainable production

Two years ago, while processing 3,250 tons of steel and other metals, we emitted 1,070 tons of CO2, which accounted for 35% of the CO2 equivalent per ton of metal. Last year, our emissions dropped to 693 tons, representing 24% of the carbon dioxide per ton of material. At Mikrostyk, we promote Kaizen programs, believing that hundreds of small ideas generated by all employees lead to continuous improvements. Our approach is consistent across all areas—from production to administration. Each of us contributes to caring for the local environment. Sustainable production is not just a slogan—it’s our way of life, for ourselves and future generations.
